The Charlotte Cobras traveled to Bakersfield, California to challenge the Bakersfield Falcons for the NPSFL Division II Title. The Cobras ended their regular season with an overall record of 4-1 and a league record of 3-1. The Falcons had an equally impressive season finishing with a league record of 3-1. It was east meets west in a contest matching two teams that have almost identical histories.
Bakersfield and Charlotte came into the league in 2007. Both teams have struggled early in their development and through the hard work and perseverance of a core group of players and coaches, they were able to build competitive programs that led them to their next goal, a chance to compete for a title. The NPSFL titles are separated into Division I and II. The teams competing for these titles are separated by "power points" which are accumulated throughout the season and based on three main components, a team's record the year before; a team's record in league contests; and the power points of the team's that they were victorius against.
The Cobras struck first with a scoring drive that resulted in a field goal but then it was all Bakersfield for the remaining of the first half which gave them a comfortable lead of 19-3 when the two teams retired to the locker rooms at halftime. The Cobras were able to regroup in the second half by holding the Falcons scoreless and orchestrating two scoring drives. Unfortunately it was "too little to late" and when time expired the Falcons claimed their first division title with a 19-13 victory. The Falcons were gracious hosts and fierce competitors and a good time was enjoyed by both teams during their first title game experience.
